Black Label Pinotage 2021

Producentens noter (engelsk): Soil: Decomposed Granite and Hutton soils. Age of vines: 68 years old. Irrigation: Dry land vineyards. Trellising: Bush vines. Yield: 2,8 tons per hectare. Vintage conditions: Warmer periods during the latter part of winter resulted in some uneven budding, flowering, and fruit set. Soil moisture levels remained satisfactory throughout the growing and ripening phases, and very little moisture stress was observed on the vines. The late start to the 2021 harvest was one of the distinguishing features of this vintage. Cooler growing conditions resulted in elegant wines. Winemaking/maturation: Fermentation took place in open top concrete fermenters at 28ºC. The floating skins were punched down by hand every 2 hours during fermentation. The juice was drawn off the skins after 3,5 days. After malolactic fermentation the wine was matured for 18 months in 100% new 225-litre French Nevers oak barrels.
