Pinotage 2019

Kanonkop, fact sheet (kanonkop.co.za – linket fra kanonkop.co.za, hentet 2026-10-18): 2019 Kanonkop Pinotage – område: Simonsberg-Stellenbosch; 100% Pinotage; alkohol 14.9%; fadlagring 16 måneder, 80% nye fade. Producentens noter (engelsk): Soil: Decomposed Granite and Hutton soils. Age of vines: 32 to 66 years old. Irrigation: Dry land vineyards. Trellising: Bush vines. Yield: 5 tons per hectare. Vintage conditions: The carry-over effects of the previous three years of drought remained visible despite improved seasonal rainfall. Crop levels were smaller, but of high quality. Although water stress was relatively low, cool conditions contributed to smaller berries, and less irrigation was required during the growing season. Winemaking/maturation: Fermentation took place in open top concrete fermenters at 28°C. The floating skins were punched down by hand every 2 hours during fermentation. The juice was drawn off the skins after 3 days. After malolactic fermentation the wine was matured for 16 months in 80% new and 20% second fill 225-litre French Nevers oak barrels. Munden er lun og luksuriøs med tætpakkede smage af bærkompot, vilde brombær, blommetærte og krydret julekage. Modne tanniner er smukt flettet ind mellem lagene af frugt og giver vinen en tæt og bred tekstur. En meget elegant vin med godt lagringspotentiale.
