Producentens noter (engelsk): Tech sheet: WINES (PTY) LTD DE TRAFFORD PLAN B 2023 “Plan B” is a true “second” wine – a collection of barrels we feel are not quite up to the high quality we expect for our wines, but too good to sell off in bulk. VINEYARD BLOCKS Cabernet Sauvignon 32% We specifically pick small sections of the vineyard that have excess vigour and vinify them separately with very little extraction. Mostly from a single block on neighbouring Keermont vineyard. Elgin Cabernet Sauvignon 26% A lighter style cool climate Cabernet Sauvignon from the beautiful Belfield vineyard. Ideal for our Plan B. Merlot 18% The cool wet 2023 season was ideal for Merlot, and we made a very strict selection. Mostly from Keermont vineyard. Shiraz 14% Adding a little soft spiciness. Petit Verdot 9% A barrel without a home. Adding a little density, spice and concentration. Cinsaut 1% PRODUCTION Plan B is produced with minimal intervention in much the same way as the top De Trafford wines, just a barrel selection of those we don’t feel meet our high standards. Hand picking, no yeast or acid additions, low SO2, no fining or filtering are standard practices at De Trafford. Time in some new, but mostly old 225L French oak barrels: 16 months. Bottling date: 8/07/2024 Production: 346 x 12 x 750mℓ TASTING NOTES Lovely, medium red colour. Intriguing, complex nose of cured meat, wild berries and spice. Medium to full bodied palate shows complexity of fruit at a young age and a long dry finish. This wine will go with just about anything you put on the braai! Drink now to 2034.
