The wine unfurls delicately, offering notes of white strawberry and tart red cherry. The palate is elegant with lively crystalline fruit is driven by energetic, saline acidity that gives the wine a long, mouth-watering finish. Winemaking The single clone, 10/5, of Pinot Noir was handpicked on March 16th. The fruit was immediately pressed, as whole bunches, to a small stainless-steel tank where it cold settled, naturally, for five days. The clear juice was racked into another small stainless-steel tank, and neutral oak barriques, whereby the oak barriques fermented naturally and the stainless-steel portion was inoculated with yeast. After a three-month period of aging on lees, then stabilisation and filtration, it was bottled fresh and early, to capture and retain the vibrancy and energy of the wine. Vintage The 2026 Vintage was another stellar, early year, the third in a row. A wetter than normal winter filled the soil profiles and aquifers. It also produced bountiful clover and winter cover crops to allow two passes of sheep grazing for most blocks. This inclusion of animals in the winter helps to decrease tractor passes, sustain nutrients and bolster soil microbes. Buds were swelling in early September and eventually bursting to bring life in mid-September. Occasional small rains helped to kick off our flowering cover crops and provide forage for our beneficial insects. A good 35mm of rain fell in mid-November, just before flowering, which was perfect to relieve stress through this vital time. This was the last significant dose of rain until just before veraison in mid-January. Veraison, the changing of colour in a grape, signals the vines transition to ripening fruit. January 13th was the earliest veraison on record for us. We were blessed with a cool spell in early March which allowed a perfect ripening window for most varieties. Harvest began slowly in early March with our early Pinot and Chardonnay and progressed beautifully until we harvested our Syrah on April 10th. […]
