Gimblett Estate Syrah 2021

Producentens tekst (engelsk): Perfumed aromas of ripe red cherry fruits, spice, licorice, and herbs. The palate is elegant and generous, with silky and succulent tannins. The wine shows great balance and persistence on the finish. An intensely perfumed Syrah of individual style and character that deftly illustrates the beauty the variety is famous for. Drink from 2022 to 2037. The Vineyard: Gimblett Estate is an 18 hectare block of vineyards also off Gimblett Road, and close to our 125 Gimblett site. This vineyard is particularly stony, and home to 95% of our Syrah. This vineyard is also home to some of our oldest vines, original clones that were some of the first Syrah vines brought to New Zealand. Winemaking: Hand-picked whole bunches, (20% whole clusters) the Bailey’s clone Syrah were gently plunged (traditional pigéage) in small stainless steel opentop fermenters. After a period of 20 days on skins, the wine was pressed, allowed to settle for a brief period, before being transferred to 228-litre French oak barriques, (50% new) and seasoned Ovals. After 18 months maturation, the wine was racked out of barrel, blended, and bottled in February 2023 with no fining and minimal filtration.
